Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong focus on SQL to manage and optimize our organization’s database systems.
  • The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of database management, performance tuning, and ensuring high availability and security for mission-critical systems.
  • As a Senior DBA, you will work closely with the IT infrastructure and development teams to ensure database efficiency and scalability while providing support for database design, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

Essential Functions and Tasks

Database Management & Optimization:

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain production and development SQL Server databases.
  • Perform regular database performance tuning and query optimization to ensure optimal database performance.

SQL Development:

  • Develop, write, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers to support business requirements.
    Troubleshoot and resolve complex SQL issues, performance problems, and database errors.

Database Backup & Recovery:

  • Develop, implement, and manage database backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
    Perform regular database restores and recovery tests.

Database Security:

  • Implement and enforce security policies for data protection, user access management, and compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
    Monitor and audit database activity to ensure secure access and prevent unauthorized changes.

 High Availability & Scalability:

  • Design and implement database high-availability architectures (e.g., clustering, replication) and scaling strategies for both read and write-heavy systems.
    Ensure that the database systems can scale effectively as data volume and user demand grow.

Collaboration with Teams:

  • Work closely with the development, operations, and business teams to design, implement, and maintain database solutions that align with business objectives.
    Provide guidance and support to junior DBAs and developers on SQL-related issues.

Database Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Set up and maintain monitoring tools to track database performance, usage, and availability.
    Provide reports on database health, performance, and capacity to management.

Documentation & Best Practices:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including procedures, policies, and troubleshooting guides.
    Stay updated with industry best practices and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Certification in SQL Server (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) or other database-related certifications.
  • Experience with database migration and upgrades.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on SQL Server databases.
  • Expert-level SQL knowledge, including advanced query optimization, indexing, and stored procedure development.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, replication, and clustering.
  • In-depth knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies and high-availability setups.
  • Hands-on experience with database security management and user access control.
  • Proficiency with database monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, APM tools).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database systems (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and Mongo DB) is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex database performance issues and provide innovative solutions.
  • Experience working with large-scale database systems and managing high-traffic production environments.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy and compliance regulations (e.g., SOC2, ISO27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cosmo DB) is a plus.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell) for database maintenance tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must Have:

  • MS SQL Server, T-SQL, DBA, DB Performance tuning.

Nice to have:

  • Azure SQL, PowerShell /Ansible.
